1871 is a Chicago-based technology incubator that brings together coders, entrepreneurs, and investors to launch innovative startups. SJP worked with the developers of this ambitious (and now wildly successful) endeavor to produce a piece that ties the creative energy of working and collaborating at 1871’s space in Chicago’s Merchandise Mart to the city’s rich history of resilience and rebirth. The poem is an original piece written and performed by Nate Marshall, one of the poets featured in Louder Than a Bomb; the graffiti artist is Miguel “Kane One” Aguilar.
