In the fall of 2012, Yo-Yo Ma, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Judson and Joyce Green Creative Consultant, presented the young musicians of the Chicago Civic Orchestra with a challenge: perform Beethoven’s 6th Symphony in its entirety…without a conductor.
Over the next six months, the musicians dove into the piece, working closely with the legendary cellist and with each other to make it their own. This short documentary chronicles the process, capturing both Yo-Yo’s creative guidance and the memorable performance that capped what was truly a unique and unforgettable project.
